Canwest’s willful ignorance re Lesley Hughes, 9/11
Who’s “loopy”? You be the judge.

Canwest is going to great lengths to find something wrong with what Lesley Hughes said about an Israeli warning prior to the WTC attacks. They seem blissfully unaware that mainstream media (Ha’aretz and Fox) reported it, and they are calling it “Internet myth”.
The writer provides every indication that Hughes can’t possibly be anti-Semitic, yet still feels called upon to inject anti-Semitic context into her statements:
Having lived and worked most of her adult life in Winnipeg’s literary, broadcasting, social justice and lefty communities, Hughes probably has more Jewish friends and colleagues than average.
If her remarks were anti-Semitic, they were likely inadvertently so. Still, it is a mark of how consumed by her conspiracy theories Hughes had become that her impaired judgment did not let her see the true meaning of what she was saying.
Hughes’ comments are steadfastly not accepted as a criticism of a country’s leadership and its secret police, but rather of its citizens, who happen to be Jewish. So, logically, her statements also suggest prejudice against ordinary Germans and Russians, some of whom are Jews, while others, of course, are not.
And no one at Canwest, apparently, is at all bothered by the intrinsic slur against all Muslims contained in the FBI’s conspiracy theory.
But what is truly laughable is the worn-out rationale for why 9/11 could not possibly have been an inside job.
Hundreds, if not thousands of people would be needed to commit the act and one of them is going to blab. Or be overhead. Or leave a smoking-gun clue behind.
That’s a thesis that contains its own antithesis: If a nice, convenient inside job would have required thousands of people, then it cannot follow that 19 young Saudis (a number of whom have since been proven still alive, by the way) could have done it from the outside all by their lonesomes.
Not to mention that eye witnesses did try to testify, but were completely ignored by the 9/11 Commission. And that the fall of tower number 7, which was not hit by a plane, did not have burning fuel inside, and in fact had only some isolated pockets of flame that had been burning only a few hours, is considered to be a definite smoking gun. Especially in light of the comparable Madrid skyscraper that was a complete inferno for a whole day and still did not collapse.
By the way, look at the photos of the Madrid building as the fires began to subside. There’s only some dark smoke, indicating oxygen starved flames. Which is all there was in the WTC towers at the worst of times!
This “loopy” essay is so obviously written by someone who has not bothered to study the research on 9/11, including quite logical demonstrations of how few actual people it would have required from within the military, all of whom are conditioned to obey and are sworn to secrecy (some of whom are known to have received promotions as an apparent reward for absenting themselves at appropriate times, causing certain security routines to fail (see the film ZERO), and may well be silenced by their own guilt or possibly a conviction that it was done for the “greater good”.
After all, look at the boost to the Bush agenda 9/11 provided, and all of the Muslims who have been “liberated” as a result.
Look how easily the lies about Iraq were able to proceed, ending in a prolonged debacle and hundreds of thousands of deaths, and only now are retired military railing against it, and what about the retired Colonel who says the US is conducting military operations inside Iran right now? Would any of them have jeopardized their careers by speaking up while still active?
So, for the sake of some people’s comfort levels, and for want of any meaningful counter argument, Hughes must be written off as “loopy”.
While 9/11 truthers are accused of being conspiracy theorists, the people who deride them inexplicably cling to the whimsical official conspiracy theory, concocted virtually overnight without any serious investigation, and naming Bin Laden as the ring leader – even though he has yet to be charged for it:
